Sight Savers of Alabama is expanding its pediatric follow-up eye care program into Mississippi. Beginning in fall, 2008, all Mississippi kindergarten students who fail eye screenings conducted in their public schools will be referred to Sight Savers and assigned individual Personal Case Managers to oversee their vision needs.

Case managers will assure their assigned children receive the level of care which each vision problem requires. Services include, setting up appointments, appointment reminders, arranging transportation if needed, and following through on all aspects of treatment. Sight Savers helps provide eyeglasses, medications, surgeries, vision and blind aids, and other prescribed treatments to low income families.

Sight Savers would like to invite Mississippi eye care providers to get involved and help "share the vision" with Mississippi children. In Alabama some 300 eye care professionals, including ophthalmologists, optometrists, opticians and others in the industry, work with Sight Savers to volunteer their services to low income families.
